The fact that the obesity pandemic did not sweep across countries like wildfire, but rather smolder and then steadily grow year after year, has made it even more difficult to tackle since its causes have become so ingrained in the social, environmental, and governmental fabric. It has an impact on both developing and developed countries. Diet, physical activity, mechanization, urbanization, genetic predisposition, drugs, mental problems, economic policies, endocrine diseases, and exposure to endocrine-disrupting chemicals are some of the recognized factors. Furthermore, research has indicated that consuming ultra-processed foods increases the risk of obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. Dependable sources this has resulted in the establishment of an alternate public health policy that stresses restricting ultra-processed foods rather than nutritional consumption.
Obesity appears to increase the risk of many other serious chronic diseases, as well as the risk of severe illness from covid-19. Everyone can help to reverse the trend of obesity and its disproportionate impact on racial and ethnic minority groups.
