Sessions & Tracks

Track 1: Bariatric surgery

Obesity is more than just a chronic disease; it is a persistent, complex disease caused by a metabolic malfunction. It is a complex illness process that requires ongoing research and several medications to be controlled. Attempts have been made to distinguish between bariatric surgery and metabolic surgery, however current data and opinion support the use of the term bariatric metabolic surgery to appropriately represent these surgical approaches.

bariatric surgery is recent surgery for weight loss surgery. Various phrases are used to indicate the influence of these surgeries on patients' weight and metabolism health (breakdown of food into energy). Aside from treating obesity, these procedures are also quite helpful in treating diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, and high cholesterol, among many other ailments. These surgeries can also help to avoid future health issues. The advantages allow people with obesity who choose to receive treatment to have a higher quality of life as well as a longer and healthier lifespan. Gastric bypasssleeve gastrectomy, gastric band, and duodenal switch are all bariatric surgical treatments. These procedures are effective in treating class iii obesity. They also aid in the normalization of your metabolism, including blood sugar, blood pressure, and cholesterol levels.

Track 2: Obesity

The fact that the obesity pandemic did not sweep across countries like wildfire, but rather smolder and then steadily grow year after year, has made it even more difficult to tackle since its causes have become so ingrained in the social, environmental, and governmental fabric. It has an impact on both developing and developed countries. Diet, physical activity, mechanization, urbanization, genetic predisposition, drugs, mental problems, economic policies, endocrine diseases, and exposure to endocrine-disrupting chemicals are some of the recognized factors. Furthermore, research has indicated that consuming ultra-processed foods increases the risk of obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. Dependable sources this has resulted in the establishment of an alternate public health policy that stresses restricting ultra-processed foods rather than nutritional consumption.

Obesity appears to increase the risk of many other serious chronic diseases, as well as the risk of severe illness from covid-19. Everyone can help to reverse the trend of obesity and its disproportionate impact on racial and ethnic minority groups.

Track 4: Obesity in women

Obesity and overweight pose significant public health threats as a rising epidemic in many countries. 1 in recent years, an increase in body mass index (BMI) has been linked to an increase in the risk burden of noncommunicable chronic diseases globally.

Obesity and overweight are well-known risk factors for a wide range of non-communicable diseases. Evidence suggests that the burden of overweight and obesity is increasing in low and middle-income countries, particularly among women.

Adiposity has specific implications for women's reproductive health. Obesity in women is associated with changes in the reproductive cycle, resulting in lower fertility, as well as an increased risk of the polycystic ovarian syndrome and sporadic or no ovulation. Overweight women with pros are predisposed to insulin resistance and are more likely to develop diabetes in the future. All of these problems make infertility therapy more difficult and less effective. Furthermore, the tendency toward menstruation and ovarian diseases associated with obesity may lead to an increased risk of ovarian, endometrial, and breast cancer. It is now evident that the prevalence of all gynecological cancers increases with BMI.

Track 5: Endocrinal and hormonal obesity

Endocrinology is a field of biology and medicine that focuses on the endocrine system, disorders that affect it, and the particular hormone releases that, when out of balance, lead to obesity. The integration of developmental processes like proliferation, growth, and differentiation as well as psychological and behavioral processes like metabolism, growth, and development, tissue function, sleep, digestion, respiration, excretion, mood, and sensory perception brought on by hormones are also taken into consideration. Hormonal imbalance is a result of eating disorders. A neurosecretory neuron releases a "classical" hormone called a neuroendocrine signal into the blood. Chemicals known as endocrine disruptors have the potential to interact with the body's endocrine system

Track 6: Bariatric surgery vs. Liposuction

Both bariatric surgery and liposuction are procedures that aim to reduce excess body weight. However, each of these is a distinct type of surgery. Bariatric procedures are being performed at an alarmingly high rate across the world. Intensive scientific activity in this field has been observed in recent years. Today's metabolic and bariatric operations have been refined over many decades and are among the most thoroughly researched treatments in modern medicine. They are carried out using short incisions and with minimally invasive surgical procedures (laparoscopic and robotic surgery). These developments allow patients to have a better overall experience with less pain, fewer problems, shorter hospital stays, and faster recovery.

liposuction is a well-known and widely utilized surgical treatment for reducing localized levels of adipose tissue in specific areas of the body. Since its debut, liposuction has been enhanced and has found extensive use, notably in cosmetic operations. This exercise will cover liposuction methods and highlight the role of the interprofessional team in evaluating and treating liposuction patients.

Track 7: Pelvic surgery

In pelvic surgery, a variety of methods and procedures are used, depending on the particular disease and the underlying reason. To choose the best method for the repair, it is crucial to identify the precise defect.

Treatment options for pelvic organ prolapse include abdominal or vaginal methods. Colporrhaphy and fixation of the vagina to the sacral ligaments are two procedures done via the vaginal channel. Colporrhaphy involves plication of the muscle layer, which reduces the size of the vaginal canal. The abdominal method, on the other hand, enables pelvic reconstruction, including Sacro colpopexy, in which a graft is used to support the vagina. The abdominal approach can now be carried out laparoscopically, allowing for a less invasive method of doing the treatment.

Colpocleisis, which entails the removal of the vaginal epithelium and closure of the vagina, may be necessary in some individuals, particularly those who are poor surgical candidates. In order to assist closure and stop urine leakage, surgical management of urinary incontinence aims to partially restrict the urethra. Retropubic suspension, the Burch technique, and the Marchall-Marchetti-Krantz treatment are just a few of the procedures that might be used to accomplish this objective. Pelvic operations for incontinence may also entail the implantation of artificial sphincters or the making of slings.

Track 8: Nutrition

Over the past two to three decades, there has been a marked rise in the prevalence of overweight and obesity across all age categories. An excessive buildup of fat in various areas of the body is caused by a disparity between energy consumption and energy output.

To control obesity in people, nutrition plays a significant role. A nutritious diet must be consumed to reduce obesity. Several foods burn fat that should be consumed to combat obesity. This indicates that obese people should pay special attention to their diets.

Bariatric surgery is an effective treatment option for obesity that has gained widespread acceptance among patients in recent years. Obese people's poor nutritional habits, despite their high caloric intake, result in a deficiency of several vitamins, minerals, and trace elements required for body metabolism and normal physiological processes.

the recent bariatric surgical approaches can cause nutrient absorption differently and some nutritional deficiencies. To avoid the adverse effects of vitamin and trace element insufficiency, proper monitoring, tests, and some supplementation treatments are recommended

Track 10: Anti-obesity drugs

Weight loss pharmaceuticals and anti-obesity medications are pharmacological agents that reduce or control weight. These medications modify one of the major processes of the human body or weight regulation by altering either appetite or calorie absorption. Dieting and physical exercise remain treatment modalities for overweight and obese individuals. Because the human body utilizes many chemicals and hormones to protect its stores of fat reaction, it was probably advantageous to our ancestors when food was scarce in the past. The mechanisms that control energy balance have significant built-in redundancy, overlap with other physi?l?gi??l functions, and are influenced by social, hedonic, and psychological factors that restrict the efficacy of Ph?rm???l?gi??l interventions.

According to a new study, a drug called semaglutide, which is licensed for adults who are obese or overweight, can also help adolescents lose weight and have healthier hearts.

Research that examined the impact of bariatric surgery on Gerd although weight reduction and lifestyle changes are beneficial in lowering Gerd symptoms, different bariatric operations yield variable degrees of symptom relief. ROUX-EN-Y gastric bypass seems to be the most effective treatment for Gerd

However laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy appeared to substantially increase illness incidence. Adjustable gastric banding was found to initially relieve GERD symptoms; nevertheless, during long-term follow-up, a subset of patients developed a new start of GERD symptoms. According to the research, different procedures have varying effects on the symptomatology of GERD, and thorough evaluation may be required before undergoing bariatric surgery in GERD patients.

The novel port entrance method known as single incision laparoscopic surgery is one of the most recent advancements in bariatric surgery. Sils is the next generation of laparoscopy, with access via a single port rather than numerous ports. Because it will be buried inside the belly button, the surgery will be scarless thanks to the use of new specialist ports and articulator devices. Although this process takes longer, it provides earlier post-operative recovery with less discomfort than standard laparoscopy, making it a therapy of choice for patients.

Track 13: Laparoscopic duodenojejunal bypass with sleeve gastrectomy

Duodenojejunal bypass (DJB) is a revolutionary metabolic operation based on the foregut theory. According to reports, DJB is a stand-alone therapy for treating diabetes in non-obese people. DJB is paired with sleeve gastrectomy in obese patients. With certain benefits, this combination of DJB and sleeve gastrectomy is offered as an appropriate alternative to ROUX-EN-Y gastric bypass (RYGB).

Additionally, it is predicted to have a potent anti-diabetic impact. Furthermore, retaining the pylorus, a physiological valve, reduces the likelihood of dumping syndrome and anastomotic stenosis, which are frequently troublesome following the gold standard laparoscopic ROUX-EN-Y gastric bypass (LRYGB). Research is now underway to investigate the clinical effects of LSG-DJB on obese individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus (t2dm)

Track 14: Stapler malfunctions in bariatric surgery

Staple line leaks are a significant source of morbidity and death in bariatric surgery. For decades, surgical staplers have been used to split and approximate tissue. Overall, surgical staplers have relatively low failure rates, but occurrences might include failure to sepsis, bleeding, locked handles, and other issues. Many skilled surgeons have had similar experiences in their careers. Patients may eventually pay the price for these flaws in the form of significant problems like bleeding or leakage.

Track: 15 Ai in bariatric surgery

The implementation of artificial intelligence technology is expanding in a variety of healthcare sectors. Machine learning methods are being investigated at all stages of the therapeutic route, from pre-surgical risk assessment and intraoperative management through complications and outcome prediction. In light of the rapid expansion of ai implementation, it is critical to understand how these technologies might be leveraged to provide safer, more practical, and cost-effective care.

Ai has contributed to substantial progress in decision-making, quality of care, and precision medicine, but several legal and ethical issues need to be addressed before its widespread application in clinical practice. For the uninitiated physician, ai should be viewed as a revolutionary statistical instrument that, unlike traditional statistics, derives its source material from real-world databases and registries rather than idealized cohorts of patients and is capable of processing massive volumes of data. In this sense, ai is intended to aid decision-making rather than replace critical thinking or surgical skill development. As with any new technology, the therapeutic utility of ai must be demonstrated and verified against existing methodologies.

Track 16: Metabolic and bariatric surgery

Metabolic-bariatric surgery results in significant weight loss and the prevention or alleviation of obesity-related hazards and consequences. More comprehensive estimates of its influence on long-term mortality and life expectancy, particularly stratified by pre-existing diabetes status, are needed, however, to inform policy and assist patient counseling. Metabolic and bariatric surgery (MBS) has been found to improve both liver steatohepatitis and fibrosis by causing considerable and persistent weight reduction. In the management of energy balance, the hypothalamus is the primary integrator of peripheral and central inputs. Its functional significance for the efficacy of bariatric surgery is not well understood. The consequences of bariatric surgery on individuals with hypothalamic impairment might give clues.

Track 17: Bariatric surgery risks

As with any major procedure, bariatric surgery poses potential health risks, both within the short term and the long term. Bariatric surgery is regarded as an intermediate- to high-risk noncardiac surgery because of the significant medical comorbidities and procedure-related hazards that are associated with it.

The most remarkable effect of bariatric surgery is the complete and rapid remission of type 2 diabetes mellitus, a disease that was previously assumed to be irreversibly progressive and minimally responsive to therapies except for a few demanding and unrealistic protocols. Diabetes remains our most complex and costly disease, despite various medical advances. Diabetes, which is growing faster than any other chronic disease, now affects more than 24 million Americans and is the leading cause of blindness, renal failure, and amputations in the United States, as well as a major cause of heart disease and stroke.

Severe obesity affects almost every system of the human body, resulting in a wide range of serious diseases such as pseudotumor cerebri, hypertension, diabetes, renal failure, immunocompetence, asthma, gastroesophageal reflux disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, cardiac failure, atherosclerosis, Pickwickian syndrome, arthritis of the weight-bearing joints, infertility, skin breakdown, and an increased prevalence of cancers, particularly colon, prostate, and breast cancer.

Track 18: Impact of bariatric surgery on cancer

The results of registry-based population studies were evaluated in this study to determine the effect of bariatric surgery on cancer incidence at the population level. Pooled odds ratios (POR) for the occurrence of cancer following bariatric surgery compared to controls were calculated using a meta-analysis of relevant papers. Obesity is thought to be a risk factor for several forms of cancer, including colorectal cancer (CRC). Bariatric surgery has been linked to decreases in obesity-related co-morbidities as well as a total cancer risk. However, given the inconsistent results of various cohort studies, the influence of bariatric surgery on CRC risk appears to be debatable. Furthermore, CRC biomarker measurements after ROUX-EN-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) demonstrated hyperproliferation and elevated proinflammatory gene expression in the rectal mucosa. Alterations in the gut microbiota and exposure of the colorectum to high amounts of bile acids are postulated processes leading to increased CRC risk, both of which are produced by RYGB-induced anatomical rearrangements.

Track 19: Advanced treatments for obesity

Obesity is a major public health issue that has returned to epidemic proportions in the western world. Evidence continues to mount that obesity is a major risk factor for many diseases and is linked to substantial morbidity and mortality. Surgery on the stomach and intestines to assist someone who has lost a lot of weight quickly. People who have a body mass index above 40 may be candidates for bariatric surgerySurgery is also an option for people with a body mass index of 35 to 40 who have health issues such as heart disease and type 2 diabetes.

In addition to a low-calorie diet and regular physical activity, nice presently recommend pharmaceutical treatment for weight reduction maintenance. Pharmacological alternatives are currently limited on the NHS, with the majority permitted for weight loss maintenance in patients with a BMI of >27 kg/m2 and associated risk factors, or those with a BMI of 30 kg/m2.

Endoscopic therapeutic devices for the treatment of obesity have been rapidly developed in recent years, either as adjuncts to bariatric surgery or as an alternative for individuals who may not be suitable surgical candidates, decline surgery due to the risks involved, or prefer a less invasive therapeutic strategy.
